Time to head back to Virginia. Our goal today was Wilmington NC via Myrtle Beach. BUT, first we had to look up the lighthouse that we could get to in Charleston. That was the Sullivan's Island Lighthouse, not too far from where we stayed. Sue, with great tolerance, drove us there and I quick took the pictures. This is the LAST Federal Lighthouse to be built, in 1962 - that's why it looks "modern".
Then we headed up North Carolina. Along the way, there was another lighthouse to catch and we turned off the highway into the small town of McClennanville and drove toward the ocean. We went as far as we could, but could see no lighthouse. We turned around to head back and saw a fellow out for a walk so we asked him. He directed us to a place where where we could see, far offshore, the two Cape Romain lighthouses, one tall and the other almost hidden behind some trees on the island. His name was Bill McClennan, same name as the town. Really nice visit with him.
Then we pushed on to Myrtle Beach. We went into a State Park for lunch and a walk on the beach. It was a nice day, sunny, breezy and not too hot. We drove through the commercial mecca of Myrtle Beach - reminded me a lot of Cocoa Beach in Florida - clearly a family destination. We stopped at the Marriott resort that was pitched to us in Hilton Head and got another session - our asking this time. But it's still not clear it's for us. Got to Wilmington, had dinner at a Bonefish Grill.
