9-18-2010 Visit St. Michael's Maryland

Don and Paula spent the week touring DC, leaving in the morning, riding the Metro, and then having dinner with us at night. On the weekend we decided on a rode trip to the Maryland Eastern shore, specifically the town of St. Michael's. Our drive over was uneventful and the town was not too busy. We walked around for awhile, then had lunch in a little cafe.

Then we walked down to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. One main attraction was the Hooper Strait Lighthouse, a screw-pile light that had been moved to this site. There were many other exhibits in the Museum, including the Dove, the replica of the original boat that brought the colonists to Maryland. Don and I toured the boat and talked
to a docent about parallels
between today's attitude in the US towards Muslims and attitudes back in the 1800s towards Catholics in Maryland.

We drove out to the water to see the other light in the area, one off shore in the water. I got a distant picture of it, but add it to the collection. Just barely got into the place where I could take a picture, the gate being controlled by a B&B at the end of the island.
